Summer Sessions 2023 Now Available!
Art Immersion
Classes are based on expanding experience in working with all mediums. Every session we work with a different medium, or learn a new process such as wax resit, drawing with graphite or pen, water color, tempera paint, air dry clay or paper mache. Classes are divided by indoor studio time and outdoor plein-air instruction. Our brain breaks are spent meandering the Thiensville Riverwalk and on the bank of the river, observing nature, which feeds our inspiration for subject matter. During summer sessions, our final Friday, the class puts together an art exhibit, setting up gallery walls and hanging artwork. We welcome family and friends to the show to celebrate our hard work!
Classical Realism Sight-Size Method & Watercolor
Learn how to draw and paint like the old masters by using a plumb line, and training your eye to the sight-size method. Render a master drawing and painting, or compose your own individual painting by designing a composition to transfer. Mornings are spent drawing in graphite using cross hatching technique, afternoons painting in watercolor. Color theory and watercolor techniques are used to build layers which are the basis for oil painting. The class breaks are spent talking about influencers in art history, with a strong emphasis on Pre-Raphealites, Naturalists, and other 19th and 20th Century Realists. One final artwork will be matted and framed by the student for the art show at the end of the week which is presented by the students. All supplies included.
