Classical Realism and Sculpture Week One
Ages 13-19
Service Description
Venetian inspired mask making, artist studio visit, and of course, master copies! This summer we will divide our studio time between drawing, painting, AND sculpting. Unique masks will be sculpted using paper mache, pulling inspiration from the Venetian Carnivale. In addition to sculpting and painting our creations in acrylic paint students study Bargue drawings and choose an artist throughout history to copy a painting they connect with. Returning students will build on their skills learned in previous summers, drawing in graphite and completing a master study in oil or watercolor. This summer we will visit the studio of my friend Rory Kurtz, the self taught illustrator who's creations grace the covers of Rolling Stone Magazine and promotional posters for film and television such as Good Omens, Dune, Walking Dead, Mandalorian and many more. He will give us a peek into his digital illustration world, and the process behind it. The sessions are divided in week courses which combined, allow for an extended course that provide students the opportunity to hone their skills through practice in the studio with daily one on one instruction. Our last session on August 4 will conclude with a student art show 2:30-3:00. In addition to curating the exhibit, students learn how to frame and hang their art work. Family and friends welcome! What to bring - lunch and drink. All supplies provided.
